Mugger stabs hawker to death in city

A hawker was stabbed to death allegedly by a mugger on a foot over bridge in front of Birdem Hospital in the city on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Nurun Nabi Mazumdar, 23, a cosmetic trader, hailing from Faridganj upazila in Chandpur.

Sub-inspector Bacchu Mia of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp said a mugger swooped on Nurun Nabi while he was passing through the foot over bridge and tried to snatch away the belongings from him around 9:00am. Being resisted, the muggers stabbed Nurun Nabi indiscriminately leaving him dead on the spot.

The victim was taken to the DMCH where the duty doctor declared him dead, the police officer said.

However, locals chased the mugger and caught him. They also gave him a good beating before handing over to police.

The mugger, whose identity could not be known immediately, is now undergoing treatment at DMCH under police custody, reports UNB.
