RAB arrests 27 drug suspects in Rajshahi

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested 27 more people in Rajshahi while 21 of them were sentenced to different terms of jail each by mobile courts on charge of drugs abuse and trading.

The elite force conducted drives in different areas of Natore, Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat districts on Friday and arrested 27 people for their alleged involvement in drug trading or taking drugs.

The RAB officials said they also seized 237 yaba tablets, 1.430 kilogrammes of cannabis, 62 pieces of drug injection, 900 litres of country-made liquor and some other drugs-taking instruments from their possession, reports UNB.

Later, the arrested were produced before three separate mobile courts.

After examining the evidences, Executive Magistrates Saiful Islam, Abdul Waresh Ansary and Rajibul Alam sentenced 21 of them to jail. Regular cases were filed against five detainees. Another arrestee was fined Tk 5,000.

Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with RAB, said different courts sent more than 435 drug addicts to jail during the last 17 days.
