A suspected robber was hacked to death while 'committing robbery' at a house at Sapchhari in sadar upazila of Rangamati early Thursday.
Quoting local people, Sattyajit Barua, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a group of robbers swooped on the house of Jalkumar Karbari and kept the house inmates hostages at gunpoint.
While committing robbery, the robbers asked Jalkumar to open his almirah. As he refused to do so, the robbers beat up Jalkumar mercilessly, leaving him injured.
At one stage, Jalkumar hit a member of the gang with a sharp weapon, leaving the robber wounded, UNB reported.
Hearing screams of the house inmates, when local people rushed in, the robbers fled away.
