A tribunal in Jhenidah on Thursday sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2010.
Judge Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim Al Razi of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal also fined the convict Tk 20,000 and he will have to serve one year more in prison in case of failure to pay the penalty.
The convict, Tariqul Islam, 28, is the son of Mannan Hossain of Laxmipur village in Maheshpur upazila.
According to the prosecution, Tariqul violated a nursery girl of neighbouring house after taking her to a bamboo bush on July 30, 2010.
A case was filed with Maheshpur Police Station accusing Tarique over the incident. Police submitted the charge-sheet on November 22, 2010.
The court handed down the verdict after examining the witnesses and evidence, reports UNB.
