Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has denied conducting any 'mass arrest' in the capital.

"Police members are arresting people as part of its daily routine," the DMP chief said.

The police official was replying to a question of a reporter after inspecting the overall security of the ongoing Ekushey book fair premises in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

"About 200 people have been arrested over the recent attack on the police as well as snatching of two people from prison van in Dhaka," Asaduzzaman Mia said.

A trial court in Dhaka will pronounce its verdict in a graft case filed against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on February 8.

DMP Commissioner also said that all the DMP units including Detective Branch and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit are working in coordination.

UNB said, three cases were filed with Shahbagh and Ramna police stations in connection with recent attack on the police as well as snatching of two people from prison van in front of the gate of High Court Mazar.

The DMP Commissioner alleged the attack on the police was arranged to create an unstable situation in the country.

"Those who have been found involved in the incident must be brought under the laws, he said.

About the aftermath of February 8 verdict, he said, nothing will happen. No anarchy will be allowed centering the verdict.

Replying to a question, Asaduzzaman Mia said that a committee has been formed to monitor the books to see whether those contain any content that stir religious sentiment or go against the spirit of communal harmony.

DMP commissioner said that the entire areas of the book fair premises are being monitored by CCTV so that no unpleasant incident occurs in the fair.
