Speakers at a function on Monday urged businessmen and traders to stop weight and measurement manipulation and manufacturing substandard products to protect the consumers’ rights of the country.

They also laid emphasis on setting up local offices of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) all over country to enhance its monitoring at grassroots level.

Collective efforts and mass awareness are necessary to fight against all kinds of product adulteration and end weight, and measurement manipulation, they added.

Their call and view came at a discussion meeting on occasion of World Metrology Day at the BSTI headquarters in the capital.

BSTI organised the meeting aiming to raise mass awareness about the importance of measurements in everyday life.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun spoke on the occasion as the chief guest with Industries Secretary Md Abdul Halim in the chair.

State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder was present on the occasion at the special guest while Director General (DG) of BSTI Md Muazzem Hossain gave the welcome speech.
