A kitchen market caught fire in Dhaka city’s Malibagh area early Thursday.

The fire started from a shop at around 5:27am, said Mahfuz Riven, a duty office at the Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room.

A total of 12 firefighting units rushed in and brought the fire under control, he said.

The duty officer could confirm neither the cause of the fire nor its extent of losses in the monetary terms.

A man who has his shop damaged by the fire said the fire started from a polythene shop and then it spread to other shops in the market, according to reports.

The kitchen market houses some 50 shops.
