A fire has broken out at a 19-storey building on Kemal Ataturk Avenue in Dhaka's Banani.
Many people have been trapped in the building. Several of them have reportedly jumped down and sustained injuries.
However, the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Department (BFSCDD), responsible for rescue missions, including fire safety, safety during air raids and any kind of disaster, is yet to confirm any casualty.
According to a BFSCDD control room officer, the flame started on the sixth floor of the FR Tower at around 12:45 pm on Thursday. He, however, could not confirm the cause of the fire.
The fire has spread to the seventh, eighth and ninth floor of the highrise, local media reports say.
The roads around the building affected by the flames have been blocked for the sake of security, the reports add.
Several firefighting units are trying to extinguish the blaze. Some naval fire service units have also joined them.
Helicopters were also seen hovering right above the building, which means the airforce have also joined to douse the flame.
