Govt  moves to form Tannery Estate Management Company

The government is going to form a company titled ‘Dhaka Tannery Industrial Estate Management Company Limited’ for the operation of the Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at Savar Tannery Industrial City.

For registering the company, all necessary papers will have to be submitted in the Industries Ministry within May 26 and the tannery owners, who will submit their necessary papers, will be the member of the company.

The decision was taken at a view-exchange meeting with Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister, Salman Fazlur Rahman on Savar Tannery Industrial City at the Industries Ministries conference room in the city today, said a press release.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun presided over the meeting while stakeholders and organisations related to the tannery industry attended the meeting.

Among others, Industries Secretary M Abdul Halim, Additional Secretary of the Industries Ministry Begum Parag and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Chairman M Mostaque Hassan were present.

Humayun said the government is providing huge facilities to the tannery owners. “The government will also provide all possible facilities in future for protecting the interest of the industry,” he added.

Salman Fazlur Rahman said many leather industry entrepreneurs have expressed their interest for plots at the prescribed price of the government. “The tannery owners who are not interested in paying the fixed price of the land, their plots will be canceled” he added, reports BSS.
