Govt to work for all, has no partisan mindset: PM

Expressing gratitude to the countrymen for giving mandate to form government for the third consecutive time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced to ensure balanced development for all irrespective of political affiliations.

The Prime Minister came up with the statement on Saturday at a grand rally organised by Awami League at Suhrawardy Udyan to celebrate the massive victory in the 11th parliamentary election, report UNB and bdnews24.com.

The Prime Minister said country's people could cast their votes spontaneously after a long time.

Underscoring the need for dedicating the present for the future generation, the Prime Minister said she will present a beautiful society to them.

She also vowed to build Bangladesh as a country free from corruption, drugs and terrorism, and sought cooperation of all in this regard.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh will be a developed and prosperous country in the world in 2071 when it will celebrate the centenary of the independence.

She promised to keep the honour of the trust people kept on her even with her blood.

The Prime Minister also said the government will ensure healthcare services for all and employment facilities for the young generation.

She also thanked them for electing Awami League in the December-30 election.

She also thanked all law enforcement agencies for ensuring the atmosphere for a fair election, and the Election Commission for presenting the election.

Sheikh Hasina also thanked all the political parties which took part in the election.

Awami League won an absolute majority bagging 257 seats in the election held on December 30, 2018.

The AL-led Grand Alliance secured 288 seats out of total 299. Of them, alliance component Jatiya Party got 22 seats.

The Awami League formed its third consecutive government and Sheikh Hasina became prime minister for a fourth after winning the election.

The party organised the celebration rally 19 days after the polls.

Sheikh Hasina arrived at Suhrawardy Udyan around 3:00 pm to join the celebration rally.

Though the rally was scheduled for 2:30 pm, the location filled with Awami League leaders and activists chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans since the morning.

A victory stage festooned with banners had been prepared for the event.

Awami League Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Advisory Council members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Mohammad Nasim, Lt Col Muhammad Faruq Khan, General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretarys Mahabub-ul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman and Dipu Moni were present on the stage.

Members of the Awami League’s policymaking committee and the new cabinet and other senior party and government leaders were also present at the event.

Traffic were restricted by police at all roads leading from Shahbag’s Ruposhi Bangla intersection, the Katabon Market intersection, the Nilkhet intersection, Chankharpul, the GPO and Matsya Bhaban intersections toward Suhrawardy Udyan.

Long lines of Awami league supporters and activists, wearing green and red T-shirts, stretch from the road opposite Bangla Academy to the Suhrawardy Udyan venue.

Supporters poured in from areas near the capital for the event.
