A young man accused of raping a seventh grader was killed in a so-called gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Amirabad of Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Rana, reports UNB.
A team of RAB-7 went to arrest Rana from the area on early Thursday acting on a tip-off, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Mashqur Rahman, media officer of RAB-7.
But the suspect opened fire on the RAB team, triggering a skirmish in which he was killed.
His body has been sent to a local hospital for autopsy.
RAB said they recovered a firearm and 11 bullets from the spot after the gunfight.
Rana is accused of raping a class-VII student on February 3. He reportedly lured her to an abandoned house with promises of pickles. A case was filed in this connection.
