HC order on Khaleda’s bail plea Monday

The High Court is scheduled to deliver its order on Monday on a bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed over an arson attack in Cumilla.

The High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman fixed the date after completion of hearing on the bail petition on Sunday.

The case was filed under the Special Powers Act over the arson attack in Cumilla on February 3, 2015, reports UNB

Khandaker Mahbub Hossain stood for Khaleda while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.

Earlier on July 17, Khaleda Zia filed a petition before the court seeking bail in the case.

On June 26, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court order that granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the case.

On May 28, the HC granted bail for six months to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in two cases filed in Cumilla.

Later, the government filed a petition with the Appellate Division seeking a stay on the bail order.

Eight people were killed and 20 others injured when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram of Cumilla district during the BNP-led alliance's movement on February 3, 2015.

Two cases were filed against Khaleda in this connection.

On February 8, Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
