The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Hifazat-e Islam Joint General Secretary Khaled Saifullah Ayubi in connection with a case over recent violence in Dhaka’s Motijheel.

The Islamist leader was arrested in Manikganj on Thursday, according to RAB spokesperson ASP ANM Imran Khan.

Legal action will be pursued against the Hifazat leader, he added, reports bdnews24.com.

Saifullah is the fifth Hifazat leader taken into custody in the past few days, following the arrests of Mamunul Haque, Ataullah Amin, Khurshid Alam Quasemi and Sharafat Hossain.

These arrests come in the wake of violence during Hifazat protests against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka.
