A man was killed and his younger brother injured in an attack allegedly by his rivals over previous enmity at Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Zihad Mollah, 42, son of Lokman Mollah while the injured is Sujon Mollah, 24, reports UNB.

There was an enmity between Shwakat Mollah and Kabir Mollah over establishing supremacy in the locality, said AKM Alinur Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kashiani Police Station.

Recently, the supporters of both the groups locked into a clash over the issue and five houses were vandalised during the clash.

Shawkat filed a case in this connection.

On Tuesday morning, Shawkat’s followers swooped on Zihad and Sujon -- supporters of Kabir Mollah -- while going to appear before a court, and stabbed them indiscriminately, leaving Zihad dead on the spot and Sujon injured.

Later, Sujon was taken to a local hospital where doctors referred him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Police arrested a man over the incident.
