70 BNP men face defamation case in Chattogram

Defamation suit filed against 70 activists and leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) over defamation speech on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday evening.

Md Jamal Uddin, Chhatra League president of Fatikchhari upazila, filed the case and others unknown and activists with Fatikchhari Police Station, said Jakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.

According to the case, Giyasuddin Qader made defamatory comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a discussion programme on 37th death anniversary of late president Ziaur Rahman on Tuesday evening.

Qader said, "There was none to read Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un at the death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The condition of the Prime Minister will be more dangerous. She has to take the responsibility of the killing in the name of cross fire."

He also described Prime Minister as a threat for the country.

Soon after the defamation speech, police arrested Abul Mansur, the former convener of upazila Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, reports UNB.
