BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said the government has demolished democracy by snatching people's all rights.
"We on behalf of our Chairperson Khaleda Zia , paid tributes to language martyrs .We are unfortunate that we are observing the day at a time when democracy was put into grave destroying all democratic institutions and snatching people's all rights, including the voting one, " he said while talking to reporters after placing wreath at the Central Shaeed Minar.
BNP central leaders, led by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and its standing committee member Khandaker Mosharref Hossain, went to the Central Shaheed Minar around 11:30 am to pay tributes to the language martyrs, as per UNB report.
Fakhrul demanded the government immediately release Khaleda Zia from jail.
He said they are observing the day with a broken heart and anger as their Chairperson was sent to jail in a graft case.
The BNP leader renewed his party's call to people for forging a national unity to restore democracy.
"We hope we will be able to wage a movement uniting people to free democracy and our leader. We must wage a mass movement to oust the government and defeat it," he said.
Fakhrul said they will continue to put their efforts for forging a national unity until it is not created and the fascist government's fall is ensured.
