BNP chief Khaleda Zia did not appear before court in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case on Wednesday slowing the day’s proceedings.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman who presided over the case asked if the court proceedings would continue in the absence of Khaleda, reports bdnews24.com.

That issue will be debated in court on Thursday.

Khaleda’s lawyers filed a petition saying the makeshift court inside the Old Dhaka jailhouse cannot continue its proceedings without permission from the Supreme Court.

The former prime minister on Sept 5 appeared in the makeshift courtroom inside the jailhouse and expressed anger over the government’s handling of the case.

At the time, Khaleda, 73, refused to come back to court citing her illness.
