Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh soon, BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed has said.

The member of the party's Standing Committee made this comment in response to reporters' questions following an emergency meeting at the chairperson's Gulshan office on Monday night.

The BNP leader, however, did not specify the date or any details of when he would arrive.

The meeting lasted for two and a half hours, starting at 9pm. The party's Acting Chairman Tarique presided over it from London.

During the meeting, the health status and medical treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia were reviewed.

Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the party's Standing Committee and the personal physician of Khaleda, joined the meeting virtually from Evercare Hospital. He presented the former prime minister’s latest condition to the meeting.

Following the meeting, Salahuddin said: "This was our regular meeting. Several election-related and party organisational matters were discussed here, alongside the election campaign strategies."

Asked about the condition of the BNP chairperson, he said: "Prof Zahid Hossain will speak to the media on this matter."
