The prime minister has said that journalists should not worry about the new Digital Security Act.

Sheikh Hasina said any new law goes through multiple steps before getting passed in the parliament; the Digital Security Act will also go through a similar, long process.

On question leak, bdnews24 quotes her as saying, “Question leaks are not new in Bangladesh. Many questions come to my mind. I’m searching for answers.”

She also raised a question asking the audience that who has that photographic memory and who can memorise answers in such a short period of time and reproduce them in exams.

The PM made the remarks while addressing a press conference at her official residence Ganobhaban in Dhaka on Monday marking her recent visit to Italy and the Vatican.

About BNP’s polls participation, she said, “We cannot do anything if the BNP doesn’t participate in the election. The election will be held in time”

Hasina questioned the rationale for assigning Tarique Rahman, himself a convict, to lead the BNP in the absence of Khaleda Zia who was jailed recently for five years in a corruption case.

If the BNP has any leader to lead the party with Khaleda Zia in jail, she asked.

Regarding the recent tour, the PM said that she urged Italy’s business community to invest in Bangladesh. IFAD, she noted, has provided loans for Bangladesh’s rural economy.
