Several hundreds of apparel workers on Thursday blocked Mirpur Road at Shyamoli in the city, demanding their arrears resulting in huge traffic congestion.

The agitated readymade garment (RMG) workers of Alif Apparel Limited took to the capital’s busy road at 8:00am as the garment authorities planned to shift the industry to another place without issuing prior notice to its employees.

"The authorities are shifting the factory without giving us salaries for four months, Helena, an operator of the Alif Apparel Limited, told the Financial Express.

Ratan, a worker of the factory, said they would wage tougher movement if their demands were not fulfilled completely.

As many as 500 workers are now employed at the factory, he added.

Kawser Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Adabor Thana Police Station, said huge traffic jam has been created in the area and the vehicular movement halted for one hour due to the sudden agitation of RMG workers.

The agitating workers withdrew their blockade at 10:30am after the agreed to give their all payment

Kohinur Islam, head of admin of the Alif Apparel Limited, said “We accepted the workers demand and will pay them all their dues”.
