Short circuits caused 39pc fire incidents in 2019

Electric short circuits were behind as many as 39 per cent of fire incidents across the country in 2019, official data showed.

According to the data available with Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence (BFSCD), 8,644 fire incidents were caused by electric short circuits in last year.

Electric short circuits, fire from burners, ignited cigarette butts and burning ashes were the major causes of fire incidents, the BFSCD data showed.

Some 18 per cent fire incidents numbering 4,428 occurred due to stove fire in 2019, the data revealed.

Besides, 15 per cent or 4,153 fire incidents resulted from ignited cigarette butts, the data added.
