Suhrawardy Hospital fire under control

The fire at Shaheed Suhrwardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar was brought under control around 10.15PM.

16 fire fighting units of Fire Service and Civil Defence managed to bring the fire under control after four hours of relentless work, according several television channels.   

All 1100 to 1200 patients, including 10 in the intensive care unit, have been shifted to different hospital and clinics. 

The fire broke out around 5;50PM in a store room of the hospital’s new building, suspects the fire service officials. 

Nobody has been injured in the fire, said hospital administrator.

The Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan was at the venue and oversaw the work of the fire service.

All affected in the fire will be compensated, said Ministry of disaster management.

The fire service has formed a committee has been formed to investigate the cause of fire
