The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested its suspended Director Khandaker Enamul Basir over the Tk 4.0 million bribery scandal.
A team of the national anti-graft body picked him up from his Darus Salam residence in the city around 10:15pm on Monday, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
He said Basir will be kept at Ramna Police Station overnight.
The arrest came six days after the ACC filed a case against Basir and suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman over the bribery scandal.
Sheikh Mohammad Fanafillah, an ACC director and also the leader of the investigation team, filed the case with Dhaka-1 coordinated district office under the Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday last, UNB reports.
Earlier, the ACC gave its approval to filing of the case against them.
A private TV channel reported recently that Mizan gave Tk 4.0 million to Enamul Basir to get clean chit in a corruption case.
Basir was suspended on June 10 for allegedly leaking information, a breach of job discipline.
Besides, Mizan was shown arrested in the case on Sunday.
