Two people were killed in a reported gunfight with a joint team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) on Marine Drive road in Cox’s Bazar’s Himchhari area early Thursday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Afrozul Haq Tutul, additional superintendent of Cox’s Bazar police, said the joint forces team gave a signal to a white car to stop at around 6:00 am at a check-post set up in the area.

Defying the signal, the car moved on and at one stage the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers, triggering a gunfight, UNB reported.

Later, the joint forces rescued two people with bullet injuries and took them to a local hospital where the doctors declared them dead.
