Chief Election Commissioner K M Nurul Huda has described the non-participation of some major political parties in the the upcoming Upazila Parishad election as “frustrating”.

He said this while inaugurating a workshop, organised for trainers of election officials tasked with overseeing the upcoming election, at ETI Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Sunday.

This election will be competitive despite not being participatory overall, according to Huda.

He explained that there are many people in and outside the parties taking part in this local election. They will compete the election, making it competitive.

BNP, which leads a 20-party alliance and had a strong voter base, has announced to sit out of the next Upazila election, alleging heavy rigging and irregularities in the December-30 general election.
