A woman diagnosed with the mosquito-borne dengue virus has died in Mymensingh.

Fatema Akhter, 65, passed away during treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) early on Saturday morning, said the hospital's Deputy Director Dr Laxmi Narayan Mazumder.

Fatema, a native of Islampur upazila of Jamalpur, was admitted to the hospital with fever on Sept 13.

"She was moved to the ICU when her condition deteriorated on Sept 19 and died during treatment there on Saturday," said Dr Laxmi Narayan.

Eight patients have died from the disease at the MMCH so far this year, he said.

The hospital is currently treating 24 people for dengue, admitting one new patient in the last 24 hours.
