Zero tolerance policy against human trafficking to continue: Minister

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad on Saturday said his ministry will continue its zero tolerance policy against all kinds of illegal activities including human trafficking, according to a press release.

He also said improving Bangladesh’s position in the United States Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report was possible following united efforts from relevant ministries, departments, civil society activists and media.

Mr Ahmad said the government has strengthened the legal procedure to combat human trafficking. He also stressed on the need for work continuously to get further improvement in eliminating such crime.

Good number observations of TIP report will help the government to combat human trafficking, he added.

Earlier, on Thursday, the US had upgraded Bangladesh’s position in its TIP report. Bangladesh’s position has been upgraded to Tier 2 from Watch List.
