172 students to get PM gold medal

A total of 172 meritorious students from 36 universities of the country will receive Prime Minister Gold Medal-2018 through a ceremony on Wednesday under the auspices of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.

According to the UGC, 84 male and 88 female students will receive the award for their academic achievements in the award giving ceremony to be held on Wednesday at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office, the UGC said on Tuesday in a press release.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the gold medals to the students as the chief guest.  Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni will attend the ceremony as special guest.

UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Kazi Shahidullah will preside over the ceremony. Secondary and Higher Educatin Division Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain will deliver the address of welcome.

Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, Principal Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus, and UGC Member Professor Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain will be present on the stage.

Besides, ministers, secretaries, current and former members of UGC, vice-chancellors from public and private universities, educationists and high officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, education ministry and UGC, among others, will also join the event.

It may be mentioned that, a total of 163 outstanding students were awarded Prime Minister Gold Medal in 2017.
