25 Bangladesh missions fail to meet export target

Twenty five Bangladesh missions, out of 57 missions in abroad, have failed to achieve their respective export target in the first half (H1) of the current fiscal year (2017-18).

The missions, like Berlin, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow, Stockholm, Beijing, Yangon, Geneva, Hanoi, Vienna, Copenhagen, and Ankara, however, failed to attain their six-month export target.

Out of the 25 missions, 12 missions were higher than that of the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

The missions are-- Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Moscow, Manila, Jakarta, Stockholm, Rabat, Katmandu and Colombo, it said.

The export growth of the remaining 13 missions was lower than that of the corresponding period of the previous year.

They are-- Beijing, Yangon, Dubai, Geneva, Beirut, Seoul, Baghdad, Hanoi, Vienna, Copenhagen, Darussalam, Bangkok and Ankara, reports BSS.

However, thirty two missions successfully achieved their respective export targets in the first half of the FY 2017-18, the bureau said.

The well-performing missions are in Brussels, New Delhi, Canberra, Ottawa, Tehran, London, Madrid, Washington, Athens, Brasilia, Hong Kong, Nairobi, Kuwait, Amman, Male, Port Luis, Mexico City, The Hague, Muscat, Manama, Warsaw, Riyadh, Cairo, Tripoli, Doha, Pretoria, Lisbon, Rome, Thimphu, Islamabad, Tashkent and New York.

According to the EPB, the overall export earnings in the period amounted to $17,916.02 million against the strategic target of $17,875 million, showing a slight growth of 0.23 per cent.

The figures also revealed that out of the 18 missions having commercial wings, only eight have achieved their export targets while 10 others could not achieve their respective targets.

The eight missions with commercial wings, which achieved their respective export target, are Brussels, New Delhi, Canberra, Ottawa, Tehran, London, Madrid and Washington.

The ten missions, out of the 18 missions, were higher than that of the corresponding period of the previous year. They are- Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore, Kualalampur, Paris and Moscow.

The export growth of the remaining four commercial wings, Beijing, Yangon, Dubai and Geneva, was lower than that of the corresponding period of the previous year.

Berlin mission topped the earning chart, followed by Washington mission, and London million.

The Berlin mission earned $3,145.17 million, while Washington and London achieved the target with$2,934.88 million and $2,069.93 million respectively.  

The strong showing from EU member states continued with the Madrid mission fetching $1,229.47 million during the six-month period of this fiscal year.

The next was the Bangladesh mission in Italy, which earned almost $801.99 million, followed by missions in Ottawa and The Hague, with approximately $541.33 million and $635 million respectively.

The New Delhi mission managed to fetch only $361.91 million.
