34 corporates receive ICMAB Award

The organisations received the awards in 12 categories based on review of their annual reports

Thirty-four organisations have received the 'Best Corporate Award 2018' presented by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) for their contribution to corporate governance.

The ICMAB, at its flagship event hosted at a city hotel on Sunday, honoured the corporates that fell into 12 categories after reviewing their annual reports.

Planning minister MA Mannan addressed the awards ceremony as the chief guest.

Financial Reporting Council (FRC) chairman CQK Mustaq Ahmed, commerce secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin and Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman Dr M Khairul Hossain spoke as special guests.

The categories were private commercial bank (general), private commercial bank (Islamic), nationalised commercial bank, non-bank financial institution, general insurance, multinational company, power generation, miscellaneous trading, miscellaneous manufacturing, cement, textile and pharmaceutical.

In the private commercial bank (general) category, Eastern Bank Ltd secured the first position followed by BRAC Bank Ltd and Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd.

Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd stood first, Al-Arafah Islami Bank Ltd second and EXIM Bank Ltd third in the private commercial bank (Islamic operation) category.

Sonali Bank Ltd was the only recipient of the award under the nationalised commercial bank category.

In non-bank financial institution, IDLC Finance Ltd got the first position followed by IPDC Finance Ltd and Delta Brac Housing Finance Corporation Ltd.

Green Delta Insurance Company Ltd bagged the first prize, Pioneer Insurance Company Ltd second and Nitol Insurance Company Ltd third in the general insurance category.

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Ltd was adjudged the top cement manufacturing company. Second prize went to HeidelbergCement Bangladesh Ltd and third to Premier Cement Mills Ltd.

In the textile manufacturing category, Paramount Textile Ltd secured the top position followed by Envoy Textiles Ltd and Matin Spinning Mills. Square Pharmaceuticals Limited received the first prize, Renata Ltd second and Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd third in pharmaceuticals manufacturing category.

In multinational manufacturing industry, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Ltd got the first prize while Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd second and Linde Bangladesh Ltd third.

Summit Power Ltd bagged the first prize, Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd second and Doreen Power Generations and Systems Ltd third in the power generation category.

Meghna Petroleum Ltd was adjudged the best in miscellaneous trading category followed by Padma Oil Company Ltd and Eastern Lubricants Blenders Ltd.

Olympic Industries Ltd secured the top position in miscellaneous manufacturing category, Golden Harvest Agro Industries Ltd second and RAK Ceramics Ltd third.

ICMAB president M Abul Kalam Mazumdar delivered a speech of welcome at the programme while ICMAB secretary Md Abdur Rahman Khan gave a vote of thanks.

Corporate Award and Branding Committee chairman Mohammed Ali Nawaz, among others, was present there.
