64 physicians, 22 journalists die from COVID-19 infections

At least 64 physicians died from coronavirus and 5,559 health workers were infected with the virus, according to the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).

One female doctor died in the past 24 hours.

The apex body of physicians in the country in a statement on Tuesday revealed the updated figures.

BMA expressed deep mourning and condolences to the victims’ families saying that the contribution of the physicians in such a condition must not be forgotten. 

Of the total infection, some 1954 physicians, 1504 nurses, and 2101 health staffers got infected since the first case was recorded in the country.

Meanwhile, at least 13 journalists died in the novel coronavirus infection while nine more died with COVID-19 symptoms across the country since the virus first hit the county on March 08.

Newsmen are facing the burnt of the virus infection in the pandemic because of their role of covering events from the frontline.

Besides, as many as 583 newsmen of some 142 national and regional newspapers, TV, online media and other media platforms got infected till Monday, informed Dhaka based local journalists’ platform titled ‘Our Media, Our Rights’ on Tuesday.

Of the total infected, some 236 made recovery and resumed their services so far, it added.
