BRAC has launched antigen-based Covid-19 rapid testing in nine cattle markets under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Sunday.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is providing necessary support to set up one ‘Surokkha’ corner in each of these cattle markets where BRAC staffers will collect samples, said a press release.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the government of UK is supporting BRAC and DGHS in this regard, the statement added.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the operations of Surokkha corners at the cattle market at Sayeednagar in Bhatara on the day.

The other cattle markets with Surokkha corners are: Block-E of Badda Eastern Housing (Aftabnagar), open space adjacent to Kaula Shiyaldanga, open space of Shahinagar housing project at Uttarkhan, Brindabon haat near BGMEA office in Uttara Sector-17, Rajdhani Housing haat near 40-feet road in Basila, Shopnodhara housing and Basila Garden City haat; the haat near Salam Steel Ltd and Jumuna Housing near 300ft road under Ward-43 and Gabtoli cattle market.

The facility will remain open every day from 8:00am to 8:00pm until July 20, the day before Eid.

People will have to pay fees fixed by the government to get the service. Prior registration is not required in this regard.

Each of the Surokkha corners will collect and analyse 150 samples per day.  After collecting a sample, the result will be given in 30 minutes.
