Three-day 'International Fire Safety and Security Exposition 2020' begins in city

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Thursday called upon the local entrepreneurs to produce modern fire safety equipment to reduce import dependence of the country.

The country has to import most of such equipment to meet its requirement, he told the inaugural ceremony of a three-day International Fire Safety and Security Exposition 2020 in the capital.

"I know that still we have not adequate fire safety equipment to cope with fire incidents in the high-rise buildings as many high-rise buildings are under construction," he said.

The minister informed the function that seven out of the 10 green readymade garment factories are now operational in Bangladesh, and stressed on installing electronic safety and security system to ensure security of the green factories.

Electronic Safety and Security Association of Bangladesh (ESSAB) in association with Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defense (BFSCD) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), USA organised the seventh edition of the expo at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

ESSAB president Md Motaher Hossain Khan chaired the inaugural ceremony while director planning, development and training of BFSCD Lt Col Siddique Mohammad Zulfiker Rahman, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) senior vice president Md. Muntakim Ashraf and first vice president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Mohammed Abdus Salam were present as the special guests.

Fire safety and security equipment of 25 countries including USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Turkey, UAE, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Bangladesh are showcased at 75 stalls of the fair.

ESSAB leaders sought bank loans and land facilities to boost local production of equipment and reduce the import dependence.

Besides showcasing the equipment, the first day of the event featured with two seminars titled 'Budget - Fire Safety and Security' and 'Digital Bangladesh and Smart City'.

On the last day of exposition, a roundtable titled 'Fire Safety Issues in Bangladesh: Challenges & Way Forward' will be held, followed by a discussion on 'Awareness & Importance of AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract)' and 'Electrical, Gaseous & Chemical Safety'.

Nine organisations will be awarded under commercial, industry and residential categories at the event.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan is scheduled to be present at the concluding ceremony as the chief guest. Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence Md Sazzad Hossain and Director General of RAB Benazir Ahmed would be present as special guests at the event.
