Canadian PM unveils 36-member cabinet

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled his new 36-member cabinet at the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday.

Trudeau won the 2019 Canadian federal election in October, which gives his Liberal Party a second term in government, but failed to reach the 170-seat threshold needed for a majority government.

The new 36-member cabinet has two more positions than before, and many familiar faces are in new positions.

Most notable is the shift of former Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland, who has been promoted to deputy prime minister.

Freeland has led Canadian team in the year-long talks to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement in 2017 and 2018.
