Two brave children have stepped up their efforts to save a Rajshahi-bound freight train from a possible accident.

The incident took place around 9:00am on Monday in Bagha Upazila of the district when a freight train was heading towards Rajshahi from Khulna.

Discovering a broken fishplate on the railway tracks, the two child heroes with brave souls waved a red piece of cloth taking position on the Jhina level crossing in Bagha.

The duo Sihabur Rahman, 6, and Titon Ali, 7, – both from Jhina village – applied their ready wit and raised the warning flag soon after knowing about the broken fishplate.

According to Titon’s father Shahidul Islam, “They stood opposite to each other holding up a red muffler.”

The train stopped near Arani Railway Station in the Upazila.

Driver of the train KM Mohiuddin said, “I saw the children trying to give a signal, but did not bother much. But finally I had to stop as they remained unmoved.”

The incident was immediately reported to the railway authorities, said station master Nayan Ahmed.

Bdnews24 said the authorities halted all trains travelling in the western zone.

The situation became normal within half an hour after the fishplate was restored.
