Many colleges are not complying with Covid-19-related cautionary health directives during their admission process for Class XI (academic session 2020-21), which began on Sunday and will continue until Thursday (September 17).

According to the admission policy amid the pandemic outbreak, the students are not required to produce their testimonials and transfer certificates for admission, and they will pay admission fees and necessary charges online.

Some reputed colleges, like - Notre Dame College or City College, are completing their entire admission process online. But students and guardians are required to go to many other colleges physically to complete admission process, as those colleges do not have websites.

Some students and guardians are coming to Dhaka from other towns and cities, although the total admission process was supposed to be online as per the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education circular. Sher-E-Bangla Government Boys' High School and College Head Master Shafiqur Rahman said they do not have any website.

"So students need to come to the institution to know how much they have to pay, and we're displaying notices on our notice board," he also said. But not only that, students need to come physically and sign their papers, which is a clear violation of health caution policy.

When asked, Mr Rahman said students need to come here physically to get admitted.

"It is our rule," he added.

Govt. Mohammadpur Model School and College has its website, and notices on payment and admission rules are available on the website. But students need to come physically for completing the admission process.

This correspondent met a student and his father who came from Panchagarh for admission on Monday morning.

A college staff was seen with mobile phone, and guardians need to pay admission fees and charges through the mobile.

"I had to come here from Panchagarh to pay fees, which I could have easily done from there," said Abul Kalam, father of student Shahin Kalam.

Shahin got chance in science division of the college. But his admission process was not completed yet, and he would have to come again Tuesday to sign a paper. Besides, he also has to make college uniform and submit photos wearing that dress to complete admission.

However, the principal refused to talk with the correspondent about the matter.

Contacted, Ziaul Haque, chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, told The Financial Express that if anybody formally complains regarding the violation of health rules in college admission process, they will take action.

"I haven't received such allegation against any college. If anybody lodges complaint, we will take action."

"If any college violates the Covid-19-related precautions, punishment like MPO cancellation will be taken," he further said.
