Cops detain ‘arms trader’ in Jessore

Police arrested an alleged arms trader along with a pistol, one bullet and two magazines from Chanchra in Jessore district town on Saturday night.

The arrestee was identified as Diponkor Roy alias Dipu (32), son of Suvash Roy, hailing from of Bagerhat district.

Acting on a tip-off that arms trader Dipu was coming to Jessore with a consignment of arms and ammunitions riding a bus of ‘Liza Paribahan’, a police team set up a check post at Chanchra.  

Sayed Bayezid, the Sub-Inspector of Chanchra Police Camp said when the bus reached the check post, police searched the vehicle and arrested Dipu along with a pistol, one bullet and two magazines around 9:45 pm.

A case was filed with Kotwali Model Police Station, a news agency reported.
