Doctors, nurses to go on 15 days’ leave after 15 days’ Covid duty

The Ministry of Health has issued a new circular with several instructions regarding the duty time, accommodation facility and allowance of doctors, nurses and other personnel, engaged in providing treatment/service to the Covid-19 patients.

In the circular, issued by Health Services Division Secretary Abdul Mannan on July 29, it was mentioned that all doctors, nurses and other staff members will discharge their duties for 15 days at a stretch. After 15 days duty, they will go for 15 days quarantine leave.

These doctors, nurses and staff members will get either accommodation along with meal in the government's residential facilities or daily allowance for the duty time for 15 days.

For doctors, the allowance will be Tk 2,000 in Dhaka city, and Tk 1,800 outside Dhaka.

For nurses, the allowance will be Tk 1,200 in Dhaka city, and Tk 1,000 outside Dhaka.

For other staff members, the allowance amount will be Tk 800 in Dhaka city, and Tk 650 outside Dhaka.

All doctors, nurses and personnel concerned are instructed to stay separately in six government facilities in Dhaka for 15 days. The facilities are - Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) Academy, Bangladesh Institute of Administrative Management (BIAM), National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD), National Academy of Educational Management (NAEM), Teachers Training College, and National Institute of Local Government (NILG).

The hospital authorities outside Dhaka will provide other government residential facilities for them after discussing with the local administrations.

Those, who will stay in the government provided residential facilities, will mandatorily avail the transports of BRTC. In other districts, where there is no BRTC transport facility, the hospital authorities will arrange necessary transportation through requisition by the DCs.

The ministry will ask for allocation of daily allowance and transport allowance on quarterly basis.

On July 29, an office order, issued by Dr Md Rawshan Anwar - director of Mugda General Hospital, said no doctor, nurse and staff will be provided any allowance for hotel accommodation as per the ministry's circular.
