The government will decide after November 27 whether to stop sending female workers to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, said expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmad on Saturday.

The issue will be discussed during a joint technical group meeting billed for November 26-27 and then it will be decided, he told reporters at the Chapainawabganj Technical Training Centre.

Demand for stopping sending female manpower to the Kingdom has in recent times got louder as they often face physical and sexual assault in the oil-rich country.

Citing the same reasons, Jatiya Party and Gonoforum MPs in parliament on Tuesday demanded that the sending of women to the Kingdom be stopped, UNB reports.

The minister also said they will take measures so that female workers can work abroad with safety and dignity. “We’ll go for other option if we fail to this end.”

Imran Ahmed inaugurated the outsourcing training course and opened the Bangabandhu Corner at the technical training centre.

Expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment secretary Selim Reza, Additional Secretary Mosharraf Hossain and Deputy Commissioner of the district AZM Nurul Haque were present on the occasion.
