Hossain Jamal Memorial Trust Fund established at DU

A new trust fund titled 'Hossain Jamal Memorial Trust Fund' has been established at the University of Dhaka (DU).

Daughter of Hossain Jamal Prof Dr Lafifa Jamal of the Department of Robotics & Mechatronics Engineering of DU handed over a cheque for Tk 1.0 million to the treasurer of the university Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin on October 23 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to set up this trust fund, said a statement. 

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Abu Md Delwar Hossain, chairman of the Department of Robotics & Mechatronics Engineering Dr Shamim Ahmed Deowan, Hossain Jamal's wife Meena Hossain, and acting registrar Md. Enamuzzaman were present at the programme.

Every year one meritorious student from the departments of Islamic History & Culture, Political Science and Economics, who will secure the highest CGPA in BA/BSS (Honors) examinations, will be given 'Hossain Jamal Memorial Gold Medal' from the income of this donation.

DU VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman thanked the donor for her donation. He also paid tribute to the memory of Hossain Jamal.

Hossain Jamal was born on October 25, 1945 in Narayanganj. He obtained his undergraduate and Master's degree from the Department of Islamic History & Culture. His subsidiary subjects were Political Science and Economics. He died on September 7, 1976 at the age of only 31.

Hossain Jamal was an active council member of Sudhjjan Pathagar, a non-government public library in Narayanganj. He also served as secretary of the library and played a critical role in consolidating the institution.
