IGP warns of stern action against rumour-mongers

Inspector General of Bangladesh Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary on Sunday asked the countrymen to refrain from spreading any false or misleading information regarding coronavirus on the social media.

The police chief also warned of stern actions against those who will spread rumors or circulate false news regarding coronavirus on social platforms.

His warning came at a press briefing in the city after receiving personal protective equipment (PPE) from the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh (OCAIB) to prevent coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The association handed over the PPE like face masks, hand gloves and sanitizers to the Bangladesh Police at a programme in the city.

Police is monitoring the different social media platforms round the clock so that no one can spread any rumour or misleading information on the coronavirus outbreak, he said.

Law enforcement agencies has already brought the perpetrators to book those who tried to share the any false or misleading news regarding the virus, he added.

No new cases were detected nor any new death reported in the country in 48 hours, keeping the total number of confirmed cases at 48, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

 Meanwhile, four more patients got complete recovery in the past 24 hours, IEDCR said.

Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Chattogram also tested five more samples raising its tally to eight. So far 48 people have tested positive for corona. Five of them have died.
