Effective implementation of Domestic Workers Protection and Welfare Policy 2015 through a law is essential to meet the government’s target of eliminating all forms of child labour by 2025 and meet the SDG-8.7 target.

Speakers came up with the opinion at a national consultation on Tuesday titled ‘Ensuring Rights of the Child Domestic Workers (CDWs): Issues and Opportunities’ held at The Daily Star Centre in the city.

They also viewed that collective effort is a must from all sections of the society to protect rights of CWD and political will and citizen consensus are the two major requirements to achieve it.

Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF), with the support of Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH-NL) and Global March Against Child Labour organised the programme.

Md. Mujibul Haque, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee, Ministry of Labour and Employment, was present at the function as the chief guest while Md. Mahbubul Haque, chairperson in charge, BSAF, presided over the event.

Abdullah Al Mamun, Director of Child Rights Governance and Child Protection Program of Save the Children Bangladesh, presented a keynote paper.

Dr. Md. Rezaul Haque, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) and Mr. Mahmudul Kabir, Country Director of Terre des Holmes Netherlands, Bangladesh office attended the function as guests of honour.

BSAF Director Abdus Shahid Mahmood gave the welcome speech at the function.
