Two farmers have been shot to death over a power clash in Narail’s Kalia upazila.

The incident took place at the upazila’s Kalabaria union neighbourhood at around 9:00 am on Thursday, said Alamgir Kabir, chief of Nargati Police Station.

The dead have been identified as Iman Ali, 35, and Ruku Molla, 32, residents of Kanduri village in Kalabaria.

According to police, a long-running dispute over dominance in the area has been on-going between the supporters of Kalabaria union council member Ilias Hossain and Olia Molla from Kanduri village.

“The supporters of Ilias obstructed Molla’s farmers from harvesting Amon paddy and clashed with them, leaving two farmers dead on the spot.”

Police detained five suspects for questioning over the incident.

Five supporters of Olia Molla were also injured in the clash and they have been admitted to various local hospitals, said Mijbah Uddin Sajal, son of Olia.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control, reports bdnews24.

Legal action will be taken over the incident, said OC Alamgir adding that the bodies were taken to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
