Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said although there is a huge demand of Bangladeshi vegetable in Qatar, export of the product is limited due to lack of processing plant in the country.

However, he stated that sufficient export to Qatar maybe possible if the middle-eastern country export in this sector.

Tofail said this to reporters after a meeting with Qatar Ambassador in Dhaka Ahmed Mohamed Al- Dehimi at his ministry on Sunday, as per a report on BSS.

The minister hoped that the country will not face any gas shortage once the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import from Qatar is started.

"The import will begin after the construction of LNG terminal in 2018," he said.

Qatar is one of the leading LNG exporting nations and Bangladesh has already signed MoU with the country for importing LNG to meet gas shortage.

Tofail also said apart from the export of man power, the scope of bilateral trade is very narrow.

Nonetheless, he hoped that Qatar will export more man power from the country.

Commerce Secretary Shubhashish Bose was present.
