Late blight disease breaks out in Nilphamari

Late blight disease has broken out in the potato farmlands of Nilphamari district.

Late blight is a potentially devastating disease of tomato and potato, infecting leaves, stems, and fruits of tomato plants.

The disease spreads quickly in fields and can result in failure of total cultivation.

It is caused by the oomycete Phytophthora infestans.

Late blight is the culprit responsible for Potato famine. The current cool weather is likely the cause of the blight.

Farmers have been asked for spraying Mencogev & Melidodo medicine in the potato farmlands to prevent the farming from the disease.

Sources said late blight disease is a yearly phenomenon of potato plants and if any farmer do not use medicine in time his potato crops would be affected.

Farmers said they are cultivating potato on the land affected by the disease.

Sources said in the past year the potato growers incurred a huge loss due to low price.
