Mentally-challenged son gets life term for killing parents

A Panchagarh court on Monday sentenced a mentally-challenged son to life term imprisonment for killing his parents in 2015.

According to the prosecution, Manjurul Hasan Shanta of Ramerdanga in the district town, who has been suffering from mental illness for long, stabbed dead his father Mizanur Rahman and mother Sultana Begum on March 22, 2015.

On information, police went to the spot and when they tried to nab Shanto, he stabbed two polices as well, leaving them injured.

Akteruzzaman, elder brother of the convict, filed a case with Panchagarh Police Station on that day.

Police submitted chargesheet against him on July 31, 2015.

After examining records and witnesses' accounts, Panchagarh Additional District and Session Judge Anisur Rahman handed down the verdict, reports UNB.
