A suspected robber was beaten to death by a mob at Aganagar village in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Kamal Mia alias Pichhi Kamal, son of Jamal Hossain of Balukandi Kandapara village.
Quoting locals, police said villagers chased a gang of robbers around 12:30am while they were trying to commit robbery in the village and beat one of the robbers to death.
Refusing the accusation of robbery, deceased's brother Hanif Mia said a rival group hacked Kamal over cable line business dispute in the area.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, said Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station.
According to BSS, Pichhi Kamal was accused in several cases including robbery, the OC added.
