Mumbai faces major power cut due to grid failure

Mumbai has faced a power outage due to grid failure on Monday morning with rail movement coming to a halt in several locations of India's financial capital.

"Due to grid failure, the supply of power in the city is disrupted," said an official from city's electricity supply department, reports Xinhua.

Multiple tripping of lines and transformer supplying power to Mumbai system has been reported and restoration is under process and may take around an hour, said another official from the department.

"Mumbai suburban trains held up due to grid failure. We will update as soon as possible. Kindly bear with us," Mumbai suburban railway said on social media.

Residents in the city took to social media to raise their voices against the disruption in electricity.

The city receives electricity from three operators -- state run Bombay Electric Supply and Transport, Adani Electricity and Tata Power.

The stock exchange operations in the city were functioning normally, said the spokesperson for the Bombay Stock Exchange.
