Updated :

OVER the past few years, Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in various sectors. For instance, it has registered continuous growth of GDP, per capita income and improvement in other indicators. It has been maintaining GDP growth above 6.0 per cent for consecutive six years and this year the GDP growth is expected to exceed 7.0 per cent. Moreover, our per capita income has also increased and is now close to US$1,500. During the recent global recession and aftermath, Bangladesh economy has been buoyant and resilient. It is heartening to see that our GDP and per capita income are accelerating at a good pace. On the others hand, inequality has been shrinking. The gap between rich and poor needs to be further narrowed down balanced growth.
