Police arrest four private university students for running online casino

Police on Monday arrested four private university students from Nikunja area of Dhaka on charges of conducting online gambling business through a casino platform using virtual currency.

The arrestees are- Md Shahinur Rahman, 26, Dipta Roy Pranto, 25, Md Golam Mostafa, 26 and Md Rakibul Hasan, 26.

Also, laptops, iPads, multiple smart phones, hard disks, passports and national identity cards used in online gambling were recovered from their possession at the time of the raid conducted by Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC).

Mohammad Saiful Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Police, (Economic Crime and Human Trafficking Team), said that on the basis of secret information, four of them were arrested in a raid in Nikunja area of Khilkhet police station around 6.30 pm on Monday.

The official also said that a case has been filed with the Khilkhet police station against those arrested under the Digital Security Act for operating an online gambling business through a casino platform using virtual currency.
